PARKING LOT SIGNS
Serving the West Michigan area including Grand Rapids, Grand Haven & Muskegon, Rockford, Comstock Park, Walker, MI
A sign bolted to a pole out in an open lot and a sign hung on a wall inside a parking ramp live completely different lives. Ordering both from the same column is how one of them ends up back on our counter two winters later. Here at Grand Rapids Sign Company, we fabricate parking lot signs out of our Walker shop. Most people replacing a faded or cracked sign order the same thing that just failed on them. Nobody ever told them why the first one gave out, so the material below matters more than the artwork does.
You already know which spot in your lot goes through signs faster than the rest. Call Grand Rapids Sign Company at (616) 284-8739 and describe that spot to us. We’ll name the material that belongs there and tell you why the last one didn’t hold up. Our shop is in Walker, and we fabricate lot signage for properties throughout the surrounding area.

Benefits of Parking Lot Signs
Visitors follow the layout you designed
A stranger pulling into your lot has to understand your traffic pattern right away. Clear entrance marking and clear stall marking keep somebody from circling twice or blocking a lane. Your layout only works when a first-time visitor reads it the same way you do.
Accessible spaces stay marked correctly
Accessible parking carries specific mounting requirements that people miss by an inch or two. A sign mounted too low disappears from view behind whatever vehicle parks in the space. We handle those spaces carefully, since the requirements are unforgiving and the property owner carries the responsibility.
The right material ends the replacement cycle
Signs chosen for the wrong spot come down early and get ordered all over again. Signs chosen for the spot they occupy stay up through winters that would ruin something else. That difference shows up two or three years out rather than on installation day.
Best Parking Lot Signs
Aluminum
Aluminum contains no iron, which means an aluminum panel can’t rust the way a steel one does. That single property makes aluminum the default for anything mounted on a pole out in the open. Michigan lots take road salt for months at a stretch, and salt reaches every unprotected steel edge eventually. We use aluminum for most permanent lot signage, since it handles that exposure without a coating anybody has to maintain.
Reflective
Reflective isn’t an alternative to aluminum, and that point confuses almost everybody ordering lot signs. Retroreflective sheeting is a facing applied over a substrate, and that substrate is usually an aluminum panel. The sheeting sends headlight light back toward the driver instead of scattering it in every direction. Grades of sheeting step up in brightness, and darker or larger lots benefit from the higher grades. Ask for reflective as a facing rather than as a material, and the whole order gets simpler.
Steel
Steel is heavier and stiffer than aluminum, which matters wherever signs take physical contact. Cart corrals and gate areas see the kind of impacts that would bend a lighter panel. Bare steel rusts, so steel signage arrives galvanized or coated, and that coating needs watching over the years. We recommend steel where strength matters more than a maintenance-free surface, and we say that plainly during the quote.
Acrylic
Acrylic is clear and bright, and it holds its color outdoors without yellowing the way some plastics do. It also resists surface scratching better than polycarbonate does, which keeps signage looking new where people touch it. Acrylic is brittle, though, and it cracks under a sharp impact or a fast temperature swing. Interior ramp walls and covered garage levels suit acrylic well, rather than an exposed pole out in the weather.
